Adult Beginner Art Classes

Have you always wanted to learn to draw or paint but never known where to start? Our friendly beginner art classes are the perfect place to discover your creativity in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Whether you've never picked up a paintbrush before or you're returning to art after many years, you'll be guided step by step through a range of enjoyable projects. Learn essential techniques in drawing, watercolour, acrylic painting, colour mixing, composition and more, building your confidence with every session.

With small class sizes, plenty of one-to-one support and all materials provided, you'll be amazed at what you can achieve. There’s no pressure, no experience needed—just a welcoming space to unwind, meet like-minded people and enjoy the satisfaction of creating your own artwork.

Short Courses for Adults

Whether you're completely new to art or looking to rediscover a creative hobby, our adult short courses are the perfect place to start. Designed for beginners, each course provides step-by-step tuition in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment.

Learn new skills in drawing, painting, printmaking or mixed media while building confidence and enjoying the creative process. With small class sizes, expert guidance, and plenty of individual support, you'll be surprised at what you can achieve.

No experience is needed, all materials are provided, and everyone is welcome. Come and enjoy learning something new, meet like-minded people, and leave each session with artwork you'll be proud of.

Wednesday evening 7-8.30pm, Thursday mornings

Friday term time only 12-14 week courses.

Children's art classes
'Every child is an artist' - Picasso

Spark your child's imagination in our fun, friendly and inspiring art classes! Designed for children of all abilities, our sessions encourage creativity while building confidence and developing artistic skills in a relaxed, supportive environment. We offer structured lessons designed to take your child on an artistic journey. Lessons are age specific, children are encouraged to build their confidence in using lots of different materials, giving our budding artists opportunities to try new things and create their very own masterpieces. And most importantly whilst having fun!

I run Saturday art classes for children age 7-12 years as well as holiday art sessions.

1-2-1 sessions are also available for GCSE and A Level support. Please contact me directly

Jo Wells, a little bit about me!

First and foremost, I LOVE art and anything arty or creative. I have a BA (Hons) Fine Art and I am a qualified art teacher at a large secondary school in Poole, I have 29 years of art teaching experience. I am also a moderator for an exam board where I work in various schools in the South of England marking GCSE Art and Design work. I am an outstanding teacher who, first and foremost is passionate about Art and teaching Art! I work extremely hard to help cultivate the inner artist in all of the students and guests who come into the Art Classes at Jo Wells Art Studio. I offer workshops and classes in order to inspire and enhance everyone’s creative spark and spirit. Make sure you don’t miss out on any of the fun by joining one of my classes today.

Paint and Sip evenings

Come along and enjoy a fun, relaxed and creative evening where you can switch off, have a drink, and discover your artistic side.

Hosted by Jo, an experienced art teacher and artist with over 25 years of teaching experience, these friendly Sip & Paint sessions are perfect for beginners and anyone who simply wants to enjoy a creative night out. You’ll be guided step-by-step through creating your own artwork in a welcoming, supportive atmosphere where there is no pressure—just plenty of encouragement and fun.

I’ll break the painting down into simple stages, sharing hints, tips and techniques along the way, helping you create something you’ll be proud to take home—even if you’ve never painted before.

Bring your friends, enjoy a drink, meet new people and spend an evening doing something different. All materials are provided, so all you need to bring is yourself and your creativity!
